Chicago Pet Photography FAQ
Everything you want to know before your pet's session.
What happens during a session?
Your pet shows up. Our photographers do the rest. Every session takes place at a location your pet already loves, a favorite park, your backyard, wherever they are most relaxed. Our photographers have years of experience working with animals and know how to earn trust quickly, read body language, and wait for the moments that capture personality. No forced poses, no stress, just your pet being themselves while we get the shot.
Where do sessions take place in Chicago?
Anywhere in the Chicago area that works for your pet. Favorite spots include Montrose Dog Beach, the Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk, North Avenue Beach, and The 606, but we are happy to shoot at your home or any location where your pet feels comfortable. We will help you pick the best spot based on your pet's personality and the light.
Can I be in the photos with my pet?
Absolutely. Some of our favorite shots are the ones with both of you in them. You are welcome to jump in for as many frames as you want, stay off to the side, or do a mix. Your call.
What should I bring to the session?
Your pet, their favorite treats, and a leash for travel. That is the minimum. Beyond that, bring a favorite toy if it gets their attention, a blanket they love, or a bandana you want them to wear. If your dog has a funny hat they tolerate, bring it. The more personality, the better the portraits. We send a pre-session guide ahead of time with tips for grooming, energy, and getting the most out of the shoot.
My dog is nervous around strangers. Will the session still work?
Yes. Our photographers have worked with hundreds of animals, including anxious rescues, reactive dogs, and cats who would prefer to be literally anywhere else. They know how to keep the energy calm, give your pet space to warm up, and find the right moment without forcing it. We build extra buffer time into every session. If your dog needs 15 minutes to sniff around and decide we are okay, that is fine. Some of our best portraits have come from the most nervous dogs.
Do you photograph cats and other pets?
We do. Cats, rabbits, horses, if you love them and they have a face, we can photograph them. Cat sessions work best at home where they feel in control. Horse sessions happen at the barn or pasture. Dogs are our specialty, but we have never turned away a pet because of species.
Can I bring multiple pets to one session?
Yes, and we encourage it. Multi-pet households get individual portraits of each animal plus group shots together. If you have three or more pets, reach out ahead of time so we can make sure there is enough time for everyone. We want every animal to get their moment.
How long until I get my photos?
Your private online gallery is delivered about a week after your session. From there, you choose your favorites and decide on prints or wall art. Take as long as you need.
What format are the digital images?
All digital photos are delivered as high-resolution JPEG files, large enough to print at any size, share online, or set as every screen in your house.
What if the weather is bad or my pet is having an off day?
Life with pets is unpredictable, and so is the weather. If conditions are bad, or your pet is sick or just having a rough day, we will reschedule. We would rather move the date than photograph a stressed-out dog.
